risk

I recently decided to not renew my contract to teach next year and it was a lot harder than I thought it would be, since it took me close to two years to build up the commitment to take a full time job again.

A friend just posted this about choosing risk over safety, first-hand over second-hand experience, "come and see" over "stay and hear about it later." It's worth reading. It's time for all of us to take some kingdom minded risks.

joy

(a beach in Maui)

I have committed myself to joy. I have come to realize that those who make space for joy, those who prefer nothing to joy, those who desire the utter reality, will most assuredly have it. We must not be afraid to announce it to refugees, slum dwellers, saddened prisoners, angry prophets. Now and then we must even announce it to ourselves. In this prison of now, in this cynical and sophisticated age, someone must believe in joy.
